In less than one week, Glamour Studio will open its doors to clients in the city of Camarillo, CA and we couldn’t be more excited for CEO & founder, Yaretd Alcantara. The recent win to continue the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) program from U.S. appeals court in California under the current administration means that more hopeful young men and women can realize a better future for their families. Here, this young dreamer shares her account on making her dreams of entrepreneurship a reality.
“Life in Mexico was very bleak with little hope for any kind of future (that) I wanted for myself.”
At 14, Yaretd Alcantara’s move to Los Angeles to join her mother is one she describes to this day as empowering. Even then, the adolescent embraced the American dream, believing that if she worked hard enough nothing was impossible. Over the years, her resolve would be tested numerous times. She eventually put a hold on her studies to help support her family and later in life, she endured long hours to save every bit she could to launch her first business, House of Beauty by Yaretd.
Yaretd received her DACA status in 2012 and it is then, she shares, the floodgates opened and the sky became the limit. “I could literally achieve anything. It was truly a turning point in my life, which I really believe helped me get to where I find myself today.”
As a teen, Yaretd found joy in doing the makeup of family members & friends, and it didn’t take long for her to decide this would become her life’s passion. She began to expand her knowledge of different skin types and applications, considering a career as an esthetician. Today she is a licensed esthetician and professional makeup artist who enjoys meeting new clients and building relationships. The responsibility of providing the best in healthy skin and beauty services is one she values and takes seriously. “Many of my clients request my services not only for general skin health and wellness, but also for makeup services on some of the most important days of their lives, like weddings, special portraits, or events.”
“When people have dreams, set goals, and try to get there by doing their best and working hard to achieve those dreams, sometimes things don’t go as planned . . . Don’t get discouraged and never give up. Stay positive and keep fighting for what you believe you can achieve, day by day, step by step.”
As an aspiring entrepreneur, the biggest challenge Yaretd faced personally was finances, but she states that “several years of slow and steady savings, early mornings, and a little support” are worth it. From the early struggles, she’s honed her craft to meet the varying degree of client expectations ranging from skin treatment to completing the makeup looks for bridal parties. Today, as her own boss, she enjoys the freedom of setting her own work schedule, services, and pricing.
“It is very necessary to understand the importance of programs such as DACA, which . . . truly allowed me to realize the future that I always wanted for myself and those around me.”
The name Glamour Studio derives from her clients’ expectations to leave feeling cared for, pampered, and glamorous. A tip Yaretd has to offer on skin care is the importance of understanding your skin type. “Use the right cleanser for your skin type (dry, oily, or somewhere in-between). Use a moisturizer and foundation that also compliments your individual skin type. I recommend natural, non-animal tested products for my clients and I would encourage (others) to do the same.” Yaretd is currently working to develop her own line of products featuring a variety of cleansers, moisturizers, and foundations.
Glamour Studio’s grand opening is this coming Thursday, November 15th, 2018 from 4-7 p.m. If you’re in the area, show your support and enjoy music, drinks, and goodie bags!
